When I come across interesting information on the web I quite often want to save a link to this and index it so I can easily find it again. One of the most popular tools to use is Delicious. It’s a social bookmarking tool where you bookmark the information you want to save and this is also made available to any other member of Delicious (that’s why it’s called social bookmarking).

However, recently I came across a tool called Diigo and I find it’s much better than Delicious. The reason I think it’s a better tool is because:

a). You can attach sticky notes to the page so they when you reference that page again you’ll see your original note indicating why you saved it in the first place.

b). You can highlight text that you think is important so that when you go back to visit this page again you see the important text highlighted.

c). You can categorise your information in a better way, for example, there is list management section so you can categorise your bookmarks into lists.

The following video shows you the functionality mentioned above.

What bookmarking tool do you use or how to keep track of data you find on the internet and want to record it?

Ian, that’s great man. I came accross Diigo before but didn’t pay much attention. Your video really shows Diigo in action and how helpful this tool could be.
I’ve just installed it in my Firefox browser so will test it for a couple of weeks.
    Thanks for sharing
    Best

I was looking for a web annotation tool and was going to use Clipmarks, but after reading/viewing your post on Diigo I’ve made my mind up.

    Thanks Ian, Diigo wins.

Thanks for the feedback Noel, I haven’t used clipmarks but I’ll check it out! Ian

    Ian,

Interesting blog – thanks for the tips and video on Diigo – I’m a delicious user and found it helpful in the past, but I may be converting.

I will trial Diigo to see if it is possible to import my Delicious bookmarks etc.

    Cheers

    Richie

There are 100′s of social bookmarking websites, not all of them get lots of traffic, but most of them will however be useful as a backlink to your site. Submitting your pages to all of these sites will take a long time. That’s why getting a automatic bookmarking tool is vital, because this way you will save an average of 3-4 hours a day, or maybe an average of $200 per month in bookmarking expenses while you bring in the best results in terms of traffic and Page Rank boost.
