I get numerous questions about the size and growth of social networks. It’s hard to keep pace with some of them, in particular Facebook, but here are some statistics.

There are over 40 million business professionals on LinkedIn with over 28% at Vice President level or above and over 66% are considered influencers or decision makers.

There are over 250 million active users on Facebook and it is growing by over 500,000 users per day. There are 1.5 Billion internet users worldwide so Facebook has over 1/8th of the global population online using their platform. But, Facebook doesn’t have a revenue model? I’m afraid you are wrong there. Facebook estimated revenue target this year is 500 million US Dolllars. I know US Dolllars are not in hot demand at the moment but 500 million is not to be sneezed at. The biggest growing demographic is over 35’s.

Twitter is seeing explosive growth with unique visitors heading up above 10,000,000 users and growing rapidly. 94% of twitter accounts have less than 100 followers. 5% of users account for 75% of traffic.
